CDE Math Framework Update

June 8, 2020

The California Department of Education (CDE) is commencing the revision process for the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools: K-12. Here’s what you need to know:

What is the Mathematics Framework?

The Math Framework  provides guidance for educators to deepen implementation of the California Standards. It is meant to guide teachers in curriculum development and instruction as they work to ensure that all students meet or exceed the California CCSS in Mathematics. The framework also provides educators and developers of instructional materials with a context for implementing the standards. Building on the standards, the framework addresses how all students in California public schools can best meet those standards.

Why is the Mathematics Framework important?

The Mathematics Framework  highlights the importance of adopting high quality instructional materials. The framework provides new instructional strategies and approaches including  instructional resources and tools, supports to close the achievement gaps for high need students and the  use of technology, course sequence possibilities, and resources for the inclusion of English learners into all classrooms.
